World War II or the Second World War (also called the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union) was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries, including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis powers. The Allies included the Soviet Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and vast majority of other countries, while the Axis included Nazi Germany, Italy, Imperial Japan and other allies. Switzerland was a neutral country during World War II.
Battles and conflicts during World War II took place in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the South Pacific.
During the war Mr. Jones, Bruno Lawrie and Magnus Armstrong served in the British Army. Also, the first two served in British Secret Service. Armstrong, who was a Sargent during the war, was known for his exploits as a demolition expert where he crippled a bridge using a shovel and a Grenade. The structure was weakened enough that the weight of a Nazi supply Train caused the bridge to collapse. Very little known about Dmitrij Volkov's action then, except for an Office of Strategic Services officer spotting him in 1943 interrogating prisoners of war near Leningrad.
Some weapons like Shepherd Arms 9mm and Braun 9mm Parabellum were used or created at this time.
