Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), officially the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti) is a country that is mostly in Asia (primarily in the Middle East) and has a portion of the country located within Europe. The two parts of Turkey are separated by the Sea of Marmara. The country of Greece is located to the west with the Soviet Union located to the northwest with the Black Sea separating the two countries. The Aegean Sea is on the western coastline.

When American President Lyndon B Johnson was addressing the nation regarding the H.A.R.M. conflict, he described the island of Khios as off the coast of Turkey.

Turkey is a member of NATO.
