Such Is The Nature Of Revenge is the final mission of The Operative: No One Lives Forever. It is the second last mission in the Game of the Year Edition. During this mission and it's cutscenes, the traitors inside UNITY are uncovered and killed.

Scene 1

After escaping the château safely, Cate Archer contacts Mr. Jones to inform him she has the list of infected people. Shortly after finishing her call, she is confronted by Baroness Dumas who tries to kill her. She does not succeed however and Cate manages to wound her. Cate wants to take the Baroness into custody and bring her to justice, but the Baroness then reveals she has infected herself and that "H.A.R.M. does not die with me". Shocked by this turn of events, Cate rushes through the village to warn all the civilians to get inside to hide for the upcoming explosion. She encounters little resistance, but because of the large number of civillians a quick but steady aim is needed to prevent civillian casualties. After warning all the civillians, Cate herself hides and the baroness explodes.

Scene 2

Thinking all is over, Cate Archer goes to the grave of Bruno Lawrie to honour his memory. At the graveyard she is confronted by Tom Goodman whom she thought was dead. Tom reveals he is a traitor and tries to kill Cate with his .32 revolver with higly lethal cyanide ammo. Cate again survives, but does not kill Tom. Instead, Mr. Smith arrives at the scene and kills Tom to "tie up loose ends". After killing Tom he turns to Cate and just as he tries to shoot her as well, he himself is shot by Mr. Jones, who explains he has been suspecting Mr. Smith for quite some time, but did not know it for sure until just now when he tried to kill Cate. Cate is surprised to find Mr. Jones suspected Mr. Smith all this time and did not act, saying "You could have warned Bruno". At this time, Bruno appears at the scene saying "He did". Cate is surprised to see her mentor and friend still alive and Bruno and Mr. Jones explain the entire plot to Cate.

Inside information

  • Although scaring the civillians while carrying a gun, they will instantly listen to you when you warn them to get inside. This is unlike for example Dr. Schenker who only listens to you when you've holstered your weapon.
  • Though maybe a logical thought, shooting the Baroness after she has reveald she has infected herself is of no use, as she won't be killed but shooting her will result in blood loss.
  • The graveyard (Scene 2) is riddeled with intelligence items, ammo boxes and even antitoxin can be found. Especially the antitoxin is useful since Tom shotos with cyanide bullets.
