
Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз; Sovetskiy Soyuz), officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Союз Советских Социалистических Республик - CCCP; Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik - USSR) or is the worlds largest country extending from the European Continent in the east to the Asian Continent in the west. It is bordered by several different countries including Poland, Finland, Norway, Turkey and several others. The Soviet Union was the primary country promoting communism during the Cold War of the 1950s and 1960s.
The Soviet Union was sending missiles to the island nation of Cuba in 1962 which resulted in a stand off with the United States over the Cuban Missile Crisis.
