Mission Briefing[]
We're sending you to a remote island paradise for a well-deserved vacation.
You'll have plenty of peace and quiet without distractions. In fact we can't contact you even if we want to. The only communication to the outside world is through the weekly boat that brings supplies and vacationers from the mainland.
Enjoy yourself, Cate. You've earned it.
Synopsis[]
Scene 1[]
- 4:00pm, October 1
- Somewhere in the South Pacific
After thwarting H.A.R.M.'s plot to hold the world at ransom, Cate Archer spends a well-deserved vacation on a remote island in the South Pacific. She relaxes on the beach, commenting on how much she is enjoying her time off.
- 1 hour later
- Cate's Room
A monkey suddenly enters her room and steals her Shepherd Arms 9mm pistol. She pursues the primate to a restricted area, but is refused entry by hotel staff. Taking another way around, Archer finds herself in a basement filled with hostile guards and containers labeled "H.A.R.M." After clearing the area, Archer temporarily forgets about the monkey and decides to pursue H.A.R.M. instead.
Scene 2[]
The hidden basement leads to an outdoor area used for making deliveries. Archer acquires a motorcycle and follows the trail through the jungle and some ancient ruins. She encounters heavy resistance along the way, including several guards wearing Monkey Masks. The trail leads her to a large and imposing monkey-themed temple that was built into a volcano.
Scene 3[]
The temple turns out to be a secret H.A.R.M. facility run by scientists and is heavily guarded. Archer makes her way to the main control room and disables the lava flow mechanism, causing the facility to self-destruct.
Scene 4[]
Archer has less than five minutes to escape the imploding facility. A scientist reaches the elevator ahead of her, but it collapses as soon as he gets inside. Archer uses the maintenance ladder to climb up the shaft and escapes just in time before the volcano erupts and the facility is completely destroyed.
Exhausted from the ordeal, Archer passes out on the beach only to be disturbed by the monkey that had stolen her gun. She is last seen chasing the monkey, while the volcano continues spewing lava in the distance.
Memorable quotes[]
Archer: (relaxing on the beach) "This is the life! No H.A.R.M. no UNITY and no objectives, except rest and relaxation!"
Martha: "Does this dress make me look fat?"
Clark: "Um, fat, like how?"
Martha: "Fat, fat! I've been eating so much here. My dress feels too tight."
Clark: "Well, you don't look fat from where I'm standing."
Martha: "So you're saying I'm fat from behind."
Clark: "I didn't say that!"
Martha: "Not in so many words, but you meant it."
Archer: "That monkey needs a good spanking. Come back here, little monkey!"

Trivia[]
- Unique to all other non-tutorial missions, Rest & Relaxation starts immediately without the option to select equipment. Archer is stuck to the default gears she brought along on this trip: Coin, Cigarette Lighter, Barrette, which must be collected before leaving her hotel room.
- An intelligence item found in the bar gives another chapter in the tale of Martha and Clark. Abigail is responding to Martha's correspondence found in Morocco. Apparently Abigail is unaware of the news regarding Clark's betrayal.
- There is a theme where H.A.R.M. employees are not being paid and the organization is fighting off rumors of it's demise.
- Apart from Misfortune in Morocco and Rescue Attempt, this is the only mission-level to feature monkeys and motorcycles, respectively.
- In the opening cut scene of Scene 2, Cate can be seen leaning out from behind a crate whilst crouching. Leaning was not an available character control in NOLF 1 but was later featured in the sequel.
- This level features a unique soundtrack that was not used in any of the other levels.
- Apart from being a lack-luster disguise (and providing the level with comedic effect), it is unclear why the thugs in this level wear monkey-masks.
- Even though they work for H.A.R.M. and it was permissible in other levels, killing the scientists fails the mission as an "Unacceptable Civilian Casualty."
- The hotel caretaker in Scene 1 wears overalls labeled "Dumas," suggesting that he's an employee of Dumas Industrial Enterprises. This is most likely a case of recycling an old NPC model rather than designing a completely new model for the purpose of this bonus level.
