"Rendezvous in Hamburg" is the seventh level and fourth mission in Monolith's Game of the Year The Operative: No One Lives Forever. It consists of two scenes and as the title suggests, it is set in Hamburg, Germany.

Briefing

Proceed to Hamburg, West Germany and rendezvous with Tom Goodman, an operative from UNITY's American branch. Goodman may have information concerning Doctor Schenker's whereabouts.

The rendezvous will take place at Das Einsame Valkyrie, a popular beatnik nightclub in Hamburg. You will recognise Agent Goodman by his rugged looks and the unlit cigarette he is holding in his left hand. Offer him a light. He will answer with "Sorry, but I don't smoke".

Once you have made contact, you will be under Agent Goodman's command. Follow his orders implicitly.

Scene 1

Das Einsame Valkyrie. Hamburg, West Germany.

The bouncers won't let anyone inside the club because it is full. With the help of a kind woman, Cate can sneak inside unnoticed. Once Cate is inside the club, a man in a black overcoat sees her and rushes to the stage. He tells Inge Wagner, the proprietor and singer of the club, about Archer's arrival. Inge tells him to bring Archer to her when she goes to the toilets.

Meanwhile Archer pokes around the manager's office and then rendezvous with Goodman. He is also surprised that Agent Archer is a woman, but nonetheless accepts her as his partner. He still patronizes her though. Goodman explains that the first thing they must do is to find out who the man in the overcoat is, because he was watching Archer all along. As Cate leaves, she is hit by something on the neck. The camera looks up to show Inge Wagner, who hit her with a dart. Cate lures the overcoat man into the restrooms where hits and groans can be heard after the door is closed.

Scene 2

A quick view of the club is shown where the people are dancing. Cate attempts to interrogate the man but is disturbed by gunshots, because the nightclub is being ambushed. Cate whacks the man somemore and meets with Goodman after apprehending the attackers. Goodman gives Cate an address, where she should meet him in an hour. Goodman tells her that there's a contact waiting outside the club, but when she meets with him he is killed by a sniper on a rooftop. Cate knows that she now has to improvise, so she heads for the canal and gets on small barge. Inge Wagner is now standing on the balcony and looks after her saying that that she will "Crush" Cate on their next meeting.

Notes & Inside References

  • First Appearances of Tom Goodman and Inge Wagner.
  • A date is not given but is obviously the night exactly after the Berlin mission.
  • The bouncers claim that the club is full even though there is hardly anyone in it.
  • In German, the name of the nightclub "Das Einsame Valkyrie" does not make sense, grammatically wise, as Valkyrie is Walküre in German and is feminine. Therefore, the correct name should have been: "Die Einsame Walküre".
  • Inge Wagner's dreadful singing is introduced.
  • This marks the second time that a guard has to be distracted to allow Cate to sneak past unnoticed.
  • It is unknown how the dart hit Cate, but the most likely way is that Inge Wagner blew it, because it was too small and a too far a distance for it to be thrown.
  • If the conversation between Inge and the overcoat agent is skipped, it can still be heard when standing near the wall in the coat hanging room.
  • This is the second mission set in Germany.
  • The overcoat agent makes it very obvious that he is tailing Cate. He whistles and moves is body in a waiting sort of way and when Cate starts walking he follows her but walks back again when she turns around.
  • Inge Wagner takes her role as the third villain to be introduced. Cate now has three main enemies.
  • H.A.R.M.'s Director (Disguised as a drunk) makes his second appearance.

Music

A combination of both versions of Guy Whitmore's Badedum is played throughout the mission.
