"H.A.R.M.'s Promise" is the tenth level in Monolith's Game of the Year "The Operative: No One Lives Forever". It is a training level and consists of only one scene.

Briefing

You are proving to be an inadequate operative, Agent Archer, you have yet to carry off a successful mission.

Well, perhaps all is not lost, at least you placed a beacon in the radio room , which will allow you to locate the sunken freighter. It would probably be worthwhile for you to practice diving in a controlled environment before attempting this mission.

The mansion blows up and Volkov is standing in front of it.

Cate enters the davanced field tactics room, where she practices scuba-diving.

Notes & Inside References

  • This is the first and only training level that does not feature any contact with command.
  • Volkov makes his first appearance after a seven level break. However, he does not speak and is only on screen for less than four seconds.
  • It is unclear why Volkov said "Au Revoir" (French: Goodbye) instead of the Russian phrase "Do Svidaniya" which means the same thing. Afterall he is Russian and Au Revoir literally means: To See You Again
  • September 19th, 1967 is the birth date of Alexander Karelin, a Russian boxer and death day of Zinaida Serebriakova, a Russian painter and Monica Proietti, a Canadian Criminal. This fact that these events fall to the date in the game is probably a sheer coincidence.
  • This is the first time that the human time-bomb weapon is used on civilians.
  • The commissioner and his companions are the first recorded victims of H.A.R.M.'s destructive plan.
  • This is the onlt level in which Cate has nothing to say.

Music

Extracts of Guy Whitmore's Badedum can be heard throughout the level
