A Conductor is a member of a train crew that is responsible for operational and safety duties while the train is in motion. Some of these duties include checking tickets for passengers.
While on a train in the state of Washington, Cate Archer encountered an American Railways conductor who was conducting a ticket check. He had short-term memory loss and heart problems, causing him to walk around the train and ask the same people about the tickets. Archer was able to avoid the conductor long enough to obtain a ticket. Afterwards she was able walk safely around the train without getting arrested.
