The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the capitalist leading United States and the communist leading Soviet Union and their respective allies. The Cold War began immediately following the conclusion of World War II and ended around 1991. The term cold war was used because there was no direct shooting war, but tension, ideological propaganda and regional conflicts. The world's various intelligence agencies were greatly used during this time frame.
Several conflicts and proxy wars happened during the Cold War, including the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, conflicts in Vietnam and the tension around Khios. Several countries and organizations were concerned that the cold war could heat up into an actual global conflict leading to a third world war.
While the world superpowers and their allies were conducting operations against their counterparts, terrorist organizations, such as H.A.R.M., used the Cold War as an advantage. This forced UNITY to protect world from these criminal organizations. The Director wanted to use a Cold War conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union over is the island nation of Khios to start the nuclear war.
